I thoroughly enjoyed the ribs ! Full stack with sweet sauce accompanied by the coslaw and onion rings . They were fabulous , highly recommended.

Excellent brisket sandwich with their "spicy" sauce (it's not spicy, but it is terrific). Chips could have been cooked a little longer, but, hey I should have asked for them "crispy". I will be back.

I feel obligated to write a review for The Frosty Mug, since a great group of work friends and I have been going almost every Thursday night for over two years. While the Mug is a bit of a dive (wood panelling, smallish, very local), it is a very worthwhile dive. I'd recommend it over every other bar/eatery in the Mt. Vernon area. It is fine to take a family there to eat for dinner, but it is very much a bar after eight, and I wouldn't take any of the numerous children that I don't have there on weekend nights. They have a number of TV's and are usually showing whichever sporting event of most import is playing at the time. The food is very good, and having tried a good portion of the menu over time, pretty consistent. They smoke their own meat and I've had some exceptional brisket, pulled pork, and steak sandwiches. They have lunch and dinner specials, and you get a lot of food for what you pay for. The food is MUCH better than the popular Buffalo Wild Wings in Mt. Vernon, unless you are only in it for wing sauces or are twelve or wear Tapout shirts and are a dipshit. They cater as well. A note to employers: Your charges will fawn all over you and pay for their own office supplies and overtime if you give them big metal tubs of pulled pork (This is not conjecture, this is highly refined business acumen talking [I go to Staples lots]). There are only a few (5?) beers on tap, but the lack of selection is negated by the large (frosty?) mugs they serve their draft beer in (they also have small and medium sized mugs for, presumably, fools). The staff is seasoned and very friendly. Every once in a while when it is crowded it takes a while for someone to get to your table to refresh drinks, but they do an admirable job nonetheless. Very rarely is an order messed up. Tip them well so they feel good about themselves. The place gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights, if that's your thing. It is probably because A) there just aren't many good bar options in Mt. Vernon (what, do you expect me to go to The Depot and get stabbed?) and B) those bigass beer mugs are conducive to imbibing and fun.

A small detour off the beaten path, but well worth it!! We came across this on yelp and tried it out! If we pass through here again we will definitely stop! Amazing food! We had the Italian beef and hog wangs, with fresh green beans, Mac n cheese and homemade pub chips! Staff was very friendly, as were the patrons. Prices were very reasonable especially on the beer! If you're close it's worth checking out!

Nice, cozy, real local (!) place with typical choices of beer and some good food.

Awesomely cheap beer! It's very divey, but I enjoy that about bars. Their Fat Tire 34oz beer was $3.75. GREAT bang for the buck! I will visit them again if I'm in town.

I did not eat here, but poked my head in the door. Most customers were drinking beer rather than eating dinner. I decided to look elsewhere for dinner.

My husband and I love to find local places to eat while roadtripping. We swung in the Frosty Mug on the way to St. Louis. It wasn't terribly convenient from the interstate but it was worth it. I loved the hole in the wall atmosphere and enjoyed people watching all the locals at the bar. Tip: you can bring kids. The door says 21 and up but that doesn't apply to the dining section... For dinner we ordered the brisket sandwich per the recommendations on Yelp. AMAZING! It was so good, like eating home cooking, in a good way. We seriously considered ordering a third sandwhich to share and would have had we not been in a hurry to get back on the road. Thanks for the tip Yelpers :)

I have spent a lot of time tasting smoked meats in a lot of different places. This is pretty solid BBQ. Really nice brisket and ribs. The smoked wings could have stayed on longer and honestly a sauce with them would have added a lot to the overall taste but they were decent. I lived in Texas most of my life and while this won't replace Mueller's or Lincoln BBQ anytime soon it is worth the stop for the brisket and ribs which are both very good. Especially if you are having serious BBQ cravings. I could have brought myself to give them 4 stars had the sides been anything better than average. Baked beans that include Kidney Beans? Really? I guess you can't forget this is Mt. Vernon completely. They probably put them in the chili hereabouts too. But the meat is worth the stop and the staff was great.

Wow what a find!! Little ol' bar and BBQ joint 10 minutes off the freeway. Wifey had the special of Thai chili pork ribeye that had a good mix of flavors. I had the brisket with the sweet sauce and spicy sauce on the side so i could try them both. They make their own chips or you can substitute. I prefered the spicy sauce because it had just enough of a bite to let the Smokey flavor to come out. Our server Julia was very knowledgeable of the menu and when I went to order she directed me to a better deal.

I almost skipped dinner tonight because I couldn't find anything I wanted to eat near our hotel. It seems like there isn't much selection in Mount Vernon if you are looking for good local food. Luckily, I finally came across this little gem. The smoked meats were absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic. There is actually a lot to choose from on the menu. A nice surprise coming from a "hole-in-the-wall." Our server told us that the bar is actually kind of famous and that people come all over to eat there. I almost missed it because it has so few reviews, but I highly recommend The Frosty Mug if you are stopping over in Mount Vernon for a night like me.

Brisket was awesome

Stopped in for lunch recently after a suggestion from a local foodie. Was kind of surprised to see the dive bar what was The Frosty Mug. Interesting set-up inside/outside, providing a drive-thru liquor window on the side of the building and beer taps protruding from the interior cooler and not from wells at their bar. Anyways, we came for BBQ, and that's what we got. I tried my hand at their brisket sandwich and homemade chips. Served on a hoagie roll, the sandwich left something to be desired. Brisket was hardly as juicy as most, and only a light pour of BBQ sauce rounded out my selection. The chips were fair, but typical of homemade bar potato skins. The brisket definitely would've flourished from a healthier layer of sauce, and a few more minutes in the smoker. All-in-all, it was fairly pedestrian. The same could be said for my co-diners' Pulled Pork Sandwich; don't be afraid of the sauce! I must say however, the BBQ ribs received rave reviews. Tender, hearty, falling off of the bone, and layered in sauce, the ribs definitely took home the prize for the day. Making everything easier to swallow were the reasonable prices. Most lunch specials run around $6.00, including your entrée and a side. Long story short, The Frosty Mug is a laid back dive bar serving up decent BBQ at a decent price. Go with the ribs!

I had the brisket and was disappointed. I had more fat than meat. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because of the 36 ounce beer for $3. I will not be going back.

The Mug is a good place to get a drink in what isn't much of a selection in Mt. Vernon. A lot of locals here, and the staff will remember you and your drink of choice fairly quickly. The venue is nothing special. The seating is a bit limited because the bar is kind of a hole in the wall. They have pretty good food served until 9:00, and they sell packaged liquor with a drive-thru. As far as entertainment, there's a jukebox, a dart board, a pool table and a golf video game. They have put in a flatscreen tv, and they have another TV with the NFL Network. The prices are really good. You can get a 32 oz Import draft for $3.75. They have installed a patio in the back to accomodate smokers and have plenty of parking.

The food is superb. The service is great. What a wonderful hole in the wall. Just watching the patrons come and go is fun. If you are in Mt Vernon you will not be disappointed.

It has been 2 years or so since I have visited and I cannot wait. This place is THE SPOT in MTV.
